XRAY USE CASE: Test Management Tool Migration
USE CASE CONTEXT
In this project, our team supported a leading payment app, with more than 300 million users, to improve its test management process by adopting Xray as its new test management tool. Following an end-to-end approach, it was possible to successfully migrate 2 distinct ALM instances (V11 and V15.01), 130 000+ test cases, and test executions to Xray.
At first, the client worked with ALM/Quality Center, a test management tool from Microfocus that was not addressing all their current needs. Challenges were related to communication and work efficiency among team members and project test management process tracking. To solve these challenges the client decided to adopt a new test management solution. Considering that the client already used Jira for managing their application development lifecycles, Xray was the best option for test management.
In order to ensure a smooth transition and the correct migration of all the data from one tool to another, the client requested the support of Ritain.io, an official Xray partner who could support them in this challenging migration project with one specific goal in mind: ensure the future success of testing activities (both manual and automated testing cycles) without losing any data regarding past test executions and bugs. Solution Strategy
A 3-stage approach was adopted to ensure a successful migration to Xray:
Assessment & Proof of Concept: focused on the analysis of the current situation, requirements gathering, and the creation of the project plan Fine Tuning and Training: dedicated to the definition of the migration scripts as well as the validation, cleansing of the data to be migrated and the training of the client’s internal team Migration and Reports: consisted of executing the migration process and building reports about test cycles performance
